Arnold Alschwang

Арнольд Александрович Альшванг

1 October 1898 - 28 July 1960

Born in Kiev, Alschwang studied piano with Vladimir Puchalsky, and in 1920 graduated from Heinrich Neuhaus's class at the Kiev Conservatory. He studied composition with Reinhold Glière and Boleslav Yavorsky, graduating in 1922.

He gave piano recitals from 1923 - 31. His compositions include a symphony, symphonic poem, piano works and other pieces.

Alschwang's teaching career includes periods at the Kiev Conservatory from 1923 - 25, and at the Moscow Conservatory from 1930 - 34 where he taught music history. He also published many books on composers.
