Isidor Achron

Исидор Юльевич Ахрон

24 November 1892 - 12 May 1948

Born in Warsaw, Achron studied piano at the St. Petersburg Conservatory with Nikolai Dubasov and Anna Yesipova, and composition with Anatoly Lyadov.

Achron toured and recorded with a young Jascha Heifetz from the 1910s through the late 1920s.

He emigrated to the US in 1922 where he gave solo piano recitals and accompanied his wife, mezzo-soprano Lea Karina.

His compositions include two piano concertos which have been recorded by Barry Goldsmith and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra under David Amos.

His brother Joseph Achron (pictured) was a violinist and composer.
