Vasily Argamakov

Василий Николаевич Аргамаков

1 November 1883 - 3 June 1965

Argamakov studied piano with Konstantin Igumnov and Karl Kipp, and composition with Taneyev.

He taught at the Moscow Conservatory from 1916-59, becoming a professor in 1935.

He composed, to what extent I don't know, but you can hear one of his works for two pianos on a 1974 Melodiya LP played by the sisters Galina and Yulia Turkina

His students include Ilya Klyachko–who became his assistant–Alexander Bakhchiev, and Alexei Kandinsky, grandson of Wassily Kandinsky.

There is an interesting page about him in Russian here, written by his student Alexander Bakhchiev:

He also translated songs by Schumann and Grieg into Russian, and wrote his own poetry, readable in the link above.
